Medicare Coverage

Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program

The BRIDGE program is a temporary program that gives eligible Medicare enrollees access to certain weight-loss medications for a flat monthly copayment.

It runs through December 31, 2027. Medicare has not yet announced what will happen on January 1, 2028.

Eligibility

Actively enrolled in Medicare Part D, or a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage
At least 18 years oldand meeting one BMI criterion below
BMI 35 or higher at the start of GLP-1 therapy
BMI 30 or higherwith HFpEF, uncontrolled hypertension (on two medications), or CKD stage 3a or above
BMI 27 or higherwith pre-diabetes (A1c 5.7 or fasting blood sugar over 100), prior heart attack, prior stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease

Who Does Not Qualify

People with type 2 diabetes
People with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea(AHI 15 or greater)

The Process

Look for physicians who are board-certified in Obesity Medicine (ABOM after their initials) or advanced practice providers (like nurse practitioners and physician assistants) who have an advanced training certificate from the Obesity Medicine Association and/or the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
